Account and data deletion
How to have your account and its data deleted. You do not need the application installed, and you do not need to speak to anyone first.
Requesting deletion
You do not need the application installed, and you do not need to speak to anyone first. Email privacy@riftwell.dev with:
- The subject line Account deletion
- The application the account belongs to
- The email address the account was created with
We will acknowledge within one business day. We may need to verify that the account is yours before we act; we will ask only for what is necessary to establish that, and we will not use it for anything else.
What is deleted
- Your account record and sign-in credentials
- The record of which applications your account was entitled to open
- The record of the devices you signed in from
- Any copies of the above held in our operational backups, on the expiry cycle below
What is kept, and why
A small number of things survive deletion, and only for the reasons given:
| Retained | Reason | Period |
|---|---|---|
| Records of the deletion request itself | To demonstrate that we complied | 24 months |
| Transaction and tax records | Required by law | 7 years |
| Security and abuse logs | To protect the service; the identifiers in them are truncated after 90 days and are not linked back to you | 90 days in full, then truncated |
| Support correspondence | Our record of a conversation you started | 12 months — deleted earlier on request, unless we are required to preserve it for a legal claim |
How long it takes
Deletion is irreversible from the moment you confirm it.
Live systems: completed within 7 days of the request being verified.
Backups: the last encrypted copies age out within 35 days on their normal cycle. They are not restored into live systems except in a disaster, and if that happens the deletion is re-applied.
Overall: everything above is complete within 30 days. We will confirm by email when it is done.
Data on your own device
Everything our applications hold is on your device and has never been sent to us — we cannot delete it, and could not reach it if we tried. Removing the application removes that data. Where you have exported a file, that file is yours and stays where you put it.
